4 Steps To An Organized Storage Building

Step 1: Determine how you want to utilize the building

Are you planning on storing items like holiday decorations that won’t be used often, or will this be used for tools or gardening supplies? Either way, organization is key to keeping the space functional and clutter-free, but knowing how you intend to use the building will help you work out the best way to organize it. 

Set 2: Set a plan for organizing items 

Decide where you want everything to go and then section off areas. Ensure that any items you will need to use frequently are easily accessible. You may find it’s efficient that items you will use together are stored close to each other. Planning your organization early will help the whole project feel more manageable and help you maximize the space you have without needing to rearrange items later. 

Step 3: Get the most out of your space

If you can’t build out, build up! Take full advantage of every square inch by incorporating vertical storage. Try adding shelves with storage baskets between studs for small items, add hooks to hang long garden items (like rakes and shovels) rather that propping them against a wall, or add a loft for overhead storage to keep items off the valuable floor space. 

Step 4: Always put items back where they go!

One of the hardest parts of organization is getting started, so avoid having to do it twice. Be sure any items that you use go back in their designated spots when you are done with them. Otherwise, you may find yourself reorganizing, or worse, spending hours searching for something you need.
